The BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance backed panel has won a landslide in this year’s Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) polls. Bar council Vice Chairman Khandker Mahbub Hossain defeated Awami League-backed panel’s Abdul Matin Khasru to win the President’s post. Incumbent SCBA secretary Mahbub Uddin Khokon defeated Rabiul Alam Budu to retain his post. Hossain is an advisor to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia while Khokon is a Joint Secretary General of the party. Ruling party backed panel managed to win only an executive member post. The BNP-Jamaat backed panel had swept the last year’s polls as well. SCBA superintendent Nimesh Chandra Das said 3,137 voters out of 4,054 exercised their franchise this time. The final results were declared on Friday morning after two days of voting on Wednesday and Thursday. Other winners from the panel are Md Khaled Ahmed and Rafiqul Islam Mehedi (vice chairman), Masud Ahmed Sayed (treasurer), AKM Rezaul Karim Khandker and Nasrin Akter (assistant secretary); Afsana Rashid Shubhra, Asaduzzaman Ansari, Md Mostofa Kamal, Mohammad Aiyub Ali, Salma Begum and Shamima Akter Banu (members). Awami League-backed panel’s Md Abul Kalam Azad prevented a clean sweep defeating Md Jahangir Jamadar for the post of a member. – bdnews24.com
