UNB, Dhaka :BNP senior leader Abdullah Al Noman on Sunday urged all to get united to launch a one-point movement for the restoration of democracy and establishing people’s basic rights.”There’s no democracy now in the country. So, the entire nation must get united to restore it. Rising above party and opinions, we’ll have to go for a one-point movement for the restoration of democracy, people’s basic rights and saving the country from killings and enforced disappearances,” he said.Noman, a BNP vice chairman, made the call while addressing a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club arranged by Agnisena Sangsad, a pro-BNP platform. He alleged that the government is obstructing their party overhauling process by not allowing BNP’s grassroots to hold councils across the country. “Now we can’t hold any rally even at the grassroots level. We can’t hold our councils anywhere. Our leaders and activist are being obstructed at each and every step, and they’re being intimidated and charged with false cases,” Noman said.He said, the government is trying to subdue BNP as it fears the party and the country’s people.Speaking at the programme, BNP chairperson’s adviser Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said the government has been in power without people’s mandate only with the help of law enforcers. “This regime’s condition is very fragile as it has been kept alive with oxygen.”He said, the government will not be able to suppress the opposition’s democratic movement with repressive acts. “The victory of the movement is certain. Let’s get united to restore democracy in the country.”
