Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and other leaders are destroying the atmosphere for dialogue by provocative comments.
If the BNP chairperson wants dialogue, she should refrain from provocative comments, she should come with an open mind by creating congenial atmosphere for talks, he said. The minister made the remarks on Thursday after a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Li Jun at his secretariat office.
Criticizing Khaleda Zia for making provocative comments at a public rally, Obaidul Quader said: “On the one hand, you’re speaking for dialogue and on the other, you’re calling the government illegal, how could you sit with an illegal government for dialogue…it is totally self-contradictory.”
The minister said the Chinese Ambassador has put emphasis on a “constructive dialogue” to improve the political situation in the country.
“We’re not against dialogue, but it should be kept in mind that provocative statements would destroy atmosphere for dialogue,” said Obaidul Quader, also the presidium member of the ruling Awami League.
The minister said different Chinese companies are working in various development projects in Bangladesh and those came up for discussion during the meeting with the envoy.
