The BNP has declined to concede defeat in the Dhaka City polls, says its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“We can win in the polls if we can unite people. We cannot yield to pressures before polls,” Fakhrul said during a discussion in Dhaka on Friday (January 17).
The round table discussion on ‘Present scenario: Distrust in polls, use of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM)’ was organised by pro-BNP body Bangladesh Coordinated Professionals’ Council at the National Press Club.
BNP Secretary General said that the party had lost many things to continue movement in 2015. Party is now struggling to overcome the loss.
“A great number of people are joining the party’s Dhaka City polls campaign. We can march if we can mobilize them and wage a movement,” said Fakhrul.
Terming BNP as a ‘liberal democratic political party’, he said, “The party is surging ahead with its own characteristics. We have to reform
it according to recent changes in world politics.”
The senior BNP leader cautioned his party men of reckless decision, but praised grassroots activists.
“The ruling party has destroyed all democratic institutions during their regime with their blueprint strategy, designs and ideas,” Fakhrul claimed after noting that the crisis in polls wasn’t the only problem, as the whole country faced “enormous hardship”.
In the programme Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna said, EVM is an evil. The ruling party had brought EVM for their blueprints. The robberies that happened in 2018 would not be allowed to repeat.
He further said, ruling party would not give chance to the BNP to win in city polls. So, BNP needs careful initiative to secure victory.
