BSS, Dhaka :
Parliament members came down heavily on BNP for its “destructive politics” and making controversial remarks against search committee constituted by the President for picking up a neutral election commission ahead of the upcoming general election.
“The BNP has made the allegation against the search committee as its leaders understood that the party could not come to power through a free, fair and peaceful election,” said Awami League lawmaker Abdul Mannan (Bogra 1) on Thursday.
Taking part in the general discussion on the thanksgiving motion of President’s speech, he opined that BNP must take part in the next general election under any circumstances for the sake of its very existence.
Mannan said the BNP leaders had realized the mistake they have committed by not participating in the last parliamentary polls held in January 5, 2014. “As a political party, BNP would face extinction if it boycotted the next election to be held in 2019,” he added.
Criticizing BNP for spearheading anti-people and anti government campaign to undermine the government’s pro-people development programmes, he said the party (BNP) did not take to the streets with any pro-people demands as grabbing state power was their only motto.
He said the BNP has been hatching conspiracy to oust the government through other means as its leader Khaleda Zia knows it very well that her party could not come to power through election.
“Now there is no political activities of BNP without press conference,” he added.
He also highlighted the successes of the present government in different important sectors like education, power, agriculture, health, infrastructure development, economy and food production.
The lawmaker elected from Bogra-1 constituency thanked the president for focusing on various development activities of the government in his speech and urged all political parties to be a part of the government’s programme for the welfare of the people.
Treasury bench member Qamrul Ashraf Khan, Warasat Hossain Belal, Abul Kalam and Tipu Sultan also spoke on the occasion.
