The BNP on Sunday said it was still waiting for permission to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan of the city today.
“We are still waiting for police permission to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan,” BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said this in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
BNP for the third time announced to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan for ‘unconditional’ release of the party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail, as the police refused to give permission before-hand.
Rizvi said, Public Works Department has no objection for allowing BNP to use Suhrawardy Uddyan subjected to permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The party has taken all preparations for the rally. Once police permission is available, they would start to make stage.
BNP first announced to hold the rally either at Suhrawardy Uddyan or Nayapaltan in front of the party central office on February 22.
As DMP did not give permission, the party announced black flag demonstration in Dhaka City on February 24.
Later it again wanted to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan on March 12.
This time also the police refused to give permission.
On March 12, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced afresh for the public meeting at the same venue and for the same demand for March 19.
