BNP said it does not want to put the army on any controversy and it never recognized any undemocratic means for its political interest, Joint Secretary General of BNP Salauddin Ahmed said in a statement on Monday.
He said, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina demeaned the dignity of the national organization [army] by apprehending illegal grabbing of state power by the ‘Uattarpara’.
“BNP never recognized any undemocratic means in the politics. Rather, undemocratic power emerged every time, taking the advantage of Awami League’s autocratic and anarchic attitude,” the BNP leader said in the statement.
“Bangladesh Army has been discharging its duties by upholding its reputation. We never want to put the Army, which is tirelessly safeguarding our independence and sovereignty, on any controversy,” he said.
Claiming that Awami League welcomed undemocratic force several times, the BNP leader also said, “The Prime Minister disrespected the status of a national organization, expressing her concern over capturing state power by the Uttarpara. It reflected her fear to face dire consequence in the future after losing power, which the party attained illegally by a farcical election.”
People of the country are aware of the fact that Awami League welcomed the martial law government in 1982, took part in the election of 1986 to give legitimacy to the autocracy of HM Ershad, the statement continued.
“It is she who welcomed the illegal government of Moeenuddin and Fakhruddin after 1/11 changeover. She said that government was the outcome of their movement. She also attended swear-in programme of that government,” he said.
