UNB, Dhaka :
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday accused the government of signing various deals through sacrificing national interest only to protect its ‘own and party’ interest.
“The government is sacrificing national interest to protect its own and party interest as it has got subservient. They’re now making various deals keeping people in dark,” he said.
Speaking at a discussion, he also hailed the High Court order staying the 2nd phase of gas price hike which was supposed to be effective from June 1.
“The current government is destroying Bangladesh’s nationhood in a planned way. It’s also destroyed Bangladesh’s democratic state nature which was our right,” the BNP leader said.
Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (Jasas) arranged the programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.
Fakhrul alleged that farmers in the northern region are facing serious problems as the country is not getting due share of the Teesta water. “But they (govt) are not talking about the issue.”
He also said though Bangladeshi citizens are gunned down by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) regularly, the government is not raising voice against it.
Mentioning that the country is now under a fascist rule, he warned that the nation’s existence will be at stake if the country does not get rid of this current government. “Awami League betrayed the spirit of democracy and Ekushey as they’re planning to impose a one-arty rule on people,” the NP leader observed.
He also alleged that the government has appointed their party man as the Chief Election Commissioner to manipulate the next election resorting to hypocrisy and tricks.
