Staff Reporter :The pro-Awami League ‘Blue Panel’ came out with flying colours in the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) election held on Sunday, winning 14 posts out of 15. Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and Professor ASM Maksud Kamal have been elected President and General Secretary respectively.The pro-BNP-Jamaat-e-Islam combined ‘White Panel’ got one post only, but the leftwing ‘Golapi Panel’ could not win a single post. A total of 1,388 teachers out of 1,467 exercised their franchise in the election held from 10am to 5pm at the Dhaka University Teachers’ Club.Chief Election Commissioner Professor Sharif Ullah Majumder announced the results in the evening.Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and Professor ASM Maksud Kamal defeated Professor Md Sirajul Islam and Professor Md Siddiqur Rahman of White Panel for the posts of president and general secretary respectively.Prof Md Imdadul Hoque of Botany Department had been elected Vice-President, Associate Professor Neelima Akhter of English department secured Joint-Secretary post and Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam of Business Studies Faculty Dean won Treasurer post. The winners as executive member from Blue Panel are Arts Faculty Dean Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, Chairman of Television and Film Studies Professor Abu Jafar Md Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Criminology Department Chairman Prof Md Ziaur Rahman, Microbiology Department’s Professor Sabita Rezwana Rahman, Chemistry department’s Professor Md Aftab Ali Sheikh, Institute of Nutrition and Food Science department’s Professor Md Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, Professor Md Rahmat Ullah of Law, Mathematics Department’s Associate Professor Chandra Nath Podder and Computer Science and Engineering Department’s Associate Professor Lafifa Jamal.From the White Panel, Professor Lutfor Rahman won the member post.’Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed told The New Nation that the election was held in a festive mood and it was were free and fair. “I thank the teachers who exercised their franchise. I also thank the election commission for holding a free and fair election.”Professor Farid said that his panel was working to protect the rights of the teachers. That is why, his panel won the election. Meanwhile, White panel’s president candidate Professor Sirajul Islam alleged that they did not get enough time for campaigning.
