Blogger Wasik murder case, verdict on October 27

The Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday fixed October 27 to pronounce the verdict in the case lodged in connection with the murder of blogger Wasikur Rahman Babu.
Earlier, advocates Abdur Rashid Molla and Nazrul Islam placed arguments in the court on behalf of the accused persons.
Wasikur Rahman, 27, was hacked to death
around 9.15 pm on March 30, 2015 at Tejgaon Industrial area’s South Begunbari by three assailants with sharp weapons on a street near the house where he lived in. Police with the help of locals managed to detain two killers Zikrullah and Ariful Islam on the spot. Three machetes were recovered from their possessions at that time.
The victim’s brother-in-law Monir Hossain on that day filed the murder case with Tejgaon Model Police Station and the detainees were later shown arrested the case.
On September 1, 2015, Detective Branch (DB) of Police filed the charge sheet of the case to the court against five members of banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT)- Zikrullah, Ariful Islam, Saiful Islam, Hasib Abdullah and Abu Taher Zunayed.
Later, on July 20, 2016, the court, framed charges against the accused people. The court recorded the depositions of 24 prosecution witnesses out of 40 in the case.
Of the accused, Zikrullah alias Hasan, Ariful Islam alias Mushfiq alias Erfan and Md Saiful Islam are behind the bar, while two others- Akram Hossain Hasib alias Abdullah and Junayed alias Taher are on the run.
