Banglalink, country’s third largest mobile operator, has procured 9.4 MHz spectrum from 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands till afternoon as Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) is holding an auction on Monday.
The operator purchased 4.4 MHz in the 1800 MHz band at $31 million and 5 MHz in the 2100 Mhz band at $29 million per megahertz.
Spectrum auction is seen as a major revenue source for the governments worldwide while telecom operators jostle for a higher frequency of airwaves to improve services and stay competitive in the race for 3G, 4G, and 5G networks.
Among other mobile operators, Robi Axiata procured 2.6MHz in the 1800MHz band and 5 MHz in the 2100MHz band.
