Staff Reporter :
The probe committee has submitted its final report about 1 November nationwide blackout, with some recommendations to avert future disaster, but did not clearly state the reason of the incident.
The probe body disclosed the report to the media at the secretariat on Wednesday.
The 32 points recommendations included upgrading of technology in grid management and installation of modern equipment replacing the old machineries. When asked about the real cause of blackout, State Minister of Power Nasrul Hamid said, it was frequency problem. He, however, could not say how and where it had happened.
After the blackout, the ministry instantly blamed the failure of a transmission line, which led to power plants and substations shutting down.
The high-voltage transmission line stretches from Baharampur in West Bengal in India to Bheramara in Kushtia district in southwest Bangladesh.
The blackout began at about noon on that day and affected all parts of the country linked to the national grid. Hospitals and the international airport used emergency generators but many offices were forced to send employees home.
Water supplies were also badly hit as most of the pumps, which lift underground water, could not function.
Bangladesh began importing electricity from India in October last year.
