Staff Reporter :
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) spokesman Dr Nazmul Islam on Wednesday said, black fungus has remained in the environment from ancient times and there is no reason to panic about it now.
“It [black fungus] can only break out in some special situation. We are closely observing the developments. We hope it won’t go out of control,” Dr Nazmul Islam said during a virtual briefing.
He said mucormycosis or black fungus infection has specific treatment.
“There is no evidence that it infects many people. But the treatment is definitely expensive. We have been working on it for the last few days,” he said. The clinical management committee of DGHS has been working to adopt a guideline as early as possible, he informed.
“We will give specific proposals within a very short time because, the medicines to treat black fungus is not easily available. Considering this, we are working so that no one can take advantage (of the situation),” he said.
This director of disease control at the health directorate also informed that the health team is investigating the incidents of identifying patients with black fungus infection at a hospital.
There will not be any misconception if people wait for the result of investigation being conducted on black fungus, he added.
