A bKsah employee was shot dead in a broad-day light on Monday by some unidentified snatchers in Sataish area of Tongi.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Abdul Hamid, 50, an employee of bKash in the area. He came from Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district.
The snatchers took away Tk 10 lakh from Abdul Hamid by shooting him while they were barred to hijack the money, police said.
Firoj Talukder, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi Police Station, said, “Three snatchers riding on a motorcycle, intercepted Abdul Hamid, while he was returning to his local office by a motorbike after collecting around Tk 10 lakh in Sataish area around 3:00pm. They also shot him dead as he tried to resist them.”
Locals recovered Abdul Hamid in a critical condition and took him to Tongi Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, the police official said. He was shot on his head and chest. A case was filed in this connection with the police station, the OC said.
The body was sent to the Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital morgue for an autopsy, he said.
