Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) will start 14-day special steamer services from Wednesday October 1 from Dhaka on the occasion of upcoming Durga Puja and Eid- Ul- Azha festivals with six vessels.
The Puja-Eid special services of BIWTC vessels with regular services will continue till October 13, said M A Matin, deputy general manager ( commercial/ passenger and ferry)BIWTC.
The Dura-Puja festival of the Hindu community would be celebrated from October 1-3 and Eid Ul Azha festival of the Muslim community would be celebrated from October 5-8, 2014 and vacations would be started from October 1 and with regular weekly holidays will continue till 13, he added.
Barisal and Narayanganj BIWTC stations has been asked to provide special tug boats and piloting services and be prepared to face any emergency calls, the BIWTC official said.
BIWTC sources said, six BIWTC vessels named peddle wheel steamers PS Ostrich, PS Lepcha, PS Mahsud, PS Turn, and screw wheel motor vessels MV Sela and MV Bangali would be placed to carry passengers to their respective destinations connecting Chandpur, Barisal, Jhalakathi, Hularhut of Pirojpur and Morelganj of Bagerhaat districts under this special schedule.
