BIWTA frees lands beside Buriganga

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) freed about 42 decimals river side land from illegal grabbers.
The BIWTA on Tuesday said through a press release that Mac Enterprise filed a writ petition to the High Court seeking stay on their illegal possession on the land of the Buriganga river in Munshikhola area under Kadamtali Mouja, Thana Kadamtali, District Dhaka.
The High Court Division of the Supreme Court issued a rule on 29.10.2019 directing both the Mac Enterprise and the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) to maintain status-co in response to the writ petition (No. 116522019).
Challenging the verdict, BIWTA, Authority filed Civil Petition No. 7432021 in the Appellate Division on 23.5.2021.
After hearing, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court adjourned the High Court’s status-co order of 29.10.2019.
Following the judgment of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, the Buriganga River’s about 42 decimals of foreshore/river side has been freed from illegal possession and according to joint survey process, fixing of boundary pillar has begun.
