Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) celebrated its first founding anniversary on Sunday
A programme was organised to celebrate the Day at Sagorika Hall of Naval Headquarters Complex, said an ISPR press release.
Chief of Naval Staff Bangladesh Navy and Chief Patron, BIMRAD, Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury and Chief of Naval Staff, Indian Navy, Admiral Karambir Singh, were present at the ceremony as chief guest and special guest, respectively.
Chairman, Department of International Relations of University of Dhaka Professor Dr Rashed Uz Zaman and Rear Admiral (retd) A S M A Awal presented keynote papers on ‘How BIMRAD can contribute to the Maritime Affairs and Security’ of Bangladesh.
Former Chief of Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy and Chairman, BIMRAD, Admiral (retd) Nizamuddin Ahmed was also present.
The Chief Guest said that the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, rightly realized the vast importance of the sea and enacted the Territorial Waters and Maritime Zones Act, 1974.
Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh has obtained its sovereign right on her territory of 1,18,813 square kilometers, he added.
A journal ‘BIMRAD Journal’ was also published on the occasion.
