Bill to set up another Science & Tech Varsity in Pirojpur passed

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Pirojpur Bill-2022 passed in the Jatiya Sangsad on Tuesday.
Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni moved the bill in the House which was unanimously passed by voice votes with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
While piloting the bill, the education minister said “the bill was placed in the parliament aiming to establish another university in the country for advancing science and technology-based education.”
The enrolment in technical education in the country now reaches 17 percent which was only 1 percent before tenure of the present government.
Opposition lawmakers in the parliament including Fakhrul Imam, Pir Fazlur Rahman, Mujibul Huq, Rustam Ali Farazi, Rawshan Ara Mannan, BNP lawmaker Harun ur Rashid and Rumeen Farhana, however, sought public review before enactment of the law. Criticizing the government on raising quality education, BNP lawmaker Rumeen Farhana mentioned “every year around 10 billion US$ currencies are being taken away as remuneration by the foreign employees who are working in different private companies here, saying that “But the company authorities are not agreeing to recruit local employees due to their lower quality education background.”
Earlier, the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Pirojpur Bill-2022, was placed in the parliament on November 18,2021.
The proposed law was formulated following the laws of other science and technology universities .
With the approval of the draft law for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, the number of science and technology universities stands at 21. Of them, 19 universities are in operation.
