The underprivileged tea garden and indigenous female students have started to reap the benefits of cycle in the remote areas of Kamalganj Upazila of Moulvibazar.
Kamalganj Upazila Administration distributed 80 bicycles to 13 high schools female students last 11th June. It’s now playing significant role in improving education and reducing dropout rate in remote hilly and tea garden areas.
Under the programme UNO motivate the female students attend classes. The bicycles not only encourage them to attend classes but also help improve mentality.
While visiting Kamalganj-Adampur road in tea garden areas in Kamalganj Upazila and seen backward areas female students come schools with cycle.
Moni Chattri, a student of class eight of Vandarigaon High School told this correspondent I was came school walking with 12 km every day from my resident Hazaribagh tea garden. In this cause most of the time I was not interest to attend class for financial crisis.
But now I am very happy to get a bicycle as now I can go to school and return home with ease. I will take care of the bicycle.
Pranti Chasa, a student of class six in Tetoigaon Rashid Uddin high school said, the bicycle given by Kamalganj Upazila administration will encourage me to study properly as I will not face transport problem to attend classes.
Abdul Matin, headmaster of Vandarigaon High School said providing bicycles for the poor and meritorious girls attending school from distant places is a good initiative to encourage girls’ education in the area.
After distributing this cycle female student’s attendance increase in our school that come backwards area, he added.
Parul Kuraia, local UP member of Madhabpur Union told this correspondent parent are happy to send their female students as it makes easier for them to get enrolled in high schools. The dropout rate is decreasing gradually at the schools following the matter.
