Najmul hits ton: Big victory for Khulna Tigers

A terrific century by opener Najmul Hossain Shanto powered Khulna Tigers to earn a huge eight-wicket victory over Dhaka Platoon in their Twenty20 cricket match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) at the flood-lit Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten with 115. His 57-ball hurricane innings saw seven sixes and eight fours. It was the third century in the ongoing BBPL.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was adjudged the Man of the Match for his sparkle innings.
Khulna Tigers took the top position bagging 16 points from 12 matches, while Dhaka Platoon earned 14 points from as many matches.
Khulna Tigers, Rajshahi Royals, Chattogram Challengers and Dhaka Platoon confirmed their play-off berth.
Sent into bat first, Dhaka Platoon scored a total of 205 for the loss of four wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Khulna Tigers reached the winning spot scoring 207 for the loss of two wickets remaining with 11 deliveries.
Khulna Tigers made a good start as openers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added together 70 runs in the opening stand before Miraz was bowled out by Mahedi Hasan.
After removal of Miraz, Najmul Hossain and Rilee Rossouw made another notable partnership. They added together 81 runs for the second wicket partnership before Rossouw (23) was caught by substitute Ariful Haque off Shadab Khan when Khulna’s total was 151 for the loss of two wickets.
Miraz hit a quick-fire 45. His 25-ball innings was belted with seven fours and a sixer.
After Rossouw’s dismissal, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim powered their team to overhaul the winning target. They put up together 56 runs for the unbroken third wicket partnership.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 18.
Shadab Khan and Mahedi Hasan took one wicket each for 32 and 39 runs respectively.
Dhaka Platoon lost their early three wickets for 35 runs.
Then opener Mominul Haque and third-down batsman Mahedi Hasan salvaged their team from debacle contributing together 153 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mominul Haque was caught by Robbie Frylinck off Mohammad Amir when Dhaka Platoon’s total was 188 for the loss of four wickets.
Mominul Haque was deprived from a ton for just nine runs. He struck a windy 91. His 59-ball innings saw four sixes and seven fours.
Mahedi Hasan remained unbeaten with 68. His 36-ball stormy knock had five sixes and three fours.
Robbie Frylinck bagged two wickets at the cost of 35 runs, while Mohammad Amir and Shafiul Islam got one wicket each conceding 35 and 50 runs respectively.
