Bangladesh Bidi Federation on Friday demanded punishment for the officers of British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BATB) terming them as conspirators of the destruction of the bidi industry.
The labourers made the demand from a protest rally organized by Sirajganj Bidi Labor Union at Sirajganj’s Independence Square, says a press release of the federation.
Addressing the rally, the federation President Amin Uddin said, “If bidi factories are shut down for their (BATB officers) conspiracy, millions of people involved with bidi industry will lose their way of earning livelihood. Moreover, the government is yet to arrange any alternative work for the bidi workers.”
