Bhatara Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) was besieged on Friday by the local people for failure to arrest the miscreants who killed minor school girl.
The mob set fire to the road adjacent to the police station and demanded immediate arrest of the criminals for justice.
They vandalized also at least 15 vehicles on the Progati Sarani. Police tried to stop them and clash began.
At least 20 people, including two policemen, were injured during the clash between police and the agitated locals, police said.
Bhatara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sarwar Alam said that angry locals organised a human chain in front of the police station demanding arrest and exemplary punishment to those involved in the crime.
Several hundred people besieged the police station and staged a demonstration in front of it from 11:00am to 12:30pm. At on stage, the mob attacked the police with country made arms and set fire to the thana boundary, the police official said.
Police fired several rounds of rubber bullets and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control in this area, the OC said.
Police are trying to arrest the criminals, he said.
The victim, Farjana Akter Liza, 9, a student of class two and daughter of car driver Faruk Hossain, was found stuffed in a plastic sack floating in a pond at Saidnagar near the Solmaid East Para on Tuesday, a day after she went missing, police sources said.
Deceased’s hands were found tied and the body bore several injury marks.
