BGMEA observes token hunger strike demanding end to ongoing anarchies

Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) members in the port city observed a token hunger strike at Nasirabad Saturday morning, with demand for an immediate end to the ongoing nonstop hartal, blockade and anarchy.
They arranged the programme on the BGMEA office premises at 11:00am. BGMEA first Vice-President Nasiruddin Ahmed Chowdhury said that the foreign buyers who were scheduled to visit Bangladesh, are now cancelling their trips as they feel it unsafe to come here.
“Many buyers have already cancelled orders and some of them demanded 20 to 30 per cent discounts as we cannot shipment their orders on time,” he alleged.
Nasiruddin also said that in a normal day almost 900-1000 vehicles carry goods from Chittagong port and the number has now declined to 200-300 only.
“Transport cost is now double as the drivers fear to ply their vehicle on highways,” he further aellged.
In the hunger strike, ASM Abu Tayeb, Former VP of BGMEA, Nasiruddin Chowdhury, owner of Eastern group, MA Salam, Former VP, Syed M Thanvir, Director of Pacific Jeans, M Wahab, Anjan Shekhar Das, Syed Nazrul Islam, Sabbir Mostafa, MDM Mohiuddin, directors of BGMEA were also present among others.
