Chattogram Bureau :
The lives and livelihoods of millions of people in the country now depend on the garment sector. The importance of the garment sector in implementing the vision of economic development that Bangladesh has created in the future is immense. However, if the stories of capacity building, sustainable development and progress are not presented properly, it will be difficult to utilize the possibilities.
This was stated by the president of BGMEA Faruk Hasan at a press conference in Chittagong on Sunday night. The meeting was held at Mahabub Ali Hall of BGMEA building in Khulshi.
The BGMEA President said that the contribution of agriculture to the GDP, which has contributed the most to the flow of economic activities, is the readymade garment industry, entrepreneurs and workers in this sector.
The garment industry contributes about 11 percent to the GDP. The industry, which contributes 61 per cent to export earnings, has directly provided employment to 4 million workers.
The combination of backward and forward linkages has created employment opportunities for about 10 million people.
About 50 million people of the country are dependent on this industry in one way or another. Depending on the garment industry, various ancillary industries have developed.
Banks, insurance, ports, hotels, tourism, cosmetics, etc. have expanded. The government is generating huge revenue through these sectors.
