BGB surveillance to prevent illegal infiltration in bordering areas of the country’s southern region has been geared up and the number of BGB members has also been increased.
The border areas where the surveillance has been increased are: Jhenaidah’s Maheshpur, Jashore and Satkhira. In the last two weeks, BGB has arrested 244 women, men and children for their alleged infiltration. There have been 18 separate cases in this regard.
Twenty-two people were arrested by the BGB during their infiltration through Jibonnagar border. They also detained 32 people during an illegal entrance through Benapole border area in Jashore on Sunday morning.
Earlier, the BGB arrested 54 women and children in the border. Two separate cases were filed at Benapole Port Police Station in this regard.
According to BGB sources, the number of infiltration into Bangladesh has increased in the last two weeks due to illegal crossing of border from India. The five southern districts are Jhenaidah, Satkhira, Chuadanga, Meherpur and Kushtia.
Of these borders, infiltration was the highest in the Maheshpur and Benapole border.
BGB 58 Commanding Officer Lt Col. Qamrul Ahsan said that in the last few days, 214 women, men and children have been arrested by the BGB.
Maheshpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rashedul Alam said, 18 cases were filed against the infiltrators over the past two weeks for illegal entrance. The BGB arrested 244 persons for illegal infiltration and handed them over to the police station. Later, the detainees were produced before the court.
Benapole Port Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mamun Khan said, on Sunday morning, BGB members arrested 32 women, men and children for their illegal entry from India and handed them over to the police station.
Earlier, fifty-four persons were arrested during the illegal entrance and handed over them to the police station. Two separate cases have been filed against them.
Lt. Col. Quamrul Ahsan, Commanding Officer, 58 BGB Battalion said that to prevent infiltration at border points, they increased the number of their members. BGB has been kept on the alert. The number of members has been increased in the many Border points.
Lt. Col. Khalikuzzaman, Director of Chuadanga BGB sector headquarter, said, “We are careful about the intrusion from India. So there is no intrusion into Bangladesh. Surveillance has been extended to four BOPs in Chuadanga and Meherpur district.”
Local residents and public representatives are being made aware of the villagers so that the illegal intruders can be captured and handed over to BGB, he said.
Jashore 49 BGB Commanding Officer Lt. Col Selim Reza said that there was no intrusion into the Jashore border BGB members have been mobilized.
Satkhira BGB’s Commanding Officer Lt Col, Golam Mohiuddin said that there had been no intrusion in the last three months along the border of this district. BGB members are on the alert at the border. In particular, surveillance has been increased at several points along the border.
The detainees from India said that they had migrated to India long years ago to earn a living. They were living in various areas of Assam, Mumbai, Bangalore and other places. They were working at many houses as a housemaid. Recently, because of the Indian government’s NRC, they do not feel safe in India.
