BGB seize smuggled goods worth Tk 116.73 cr in Feb

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a huge quantity of smuggled goods and illegal drugs worth about Tk 116.73 crore from different parts of the country in February compared with Tk 113.64 crore in January this year.
Of the seized goods, 11,84,913 pieces were Yaba tables, 22,980 bottles of phensidyle, 1,632 kilograms cannabis, 4.89 Kgs of foreign heroine, two Kgs golds, 20,531 bottles of wine, 15,84,880 pieces of illegal tablets and huge clothes and woods, said an official release.
BGB personnel also arrested 98 people for their suspected involvement in smuggling of goods and illegal drugs during the period, it said.
They also detained 226 Bangladeshi nationals on charges of crossing the border, while held 13 Indian nationals on charges of illegal entrance into Bangladesh territory and handed over eight of the Indian citizens to the BSF last month.
It also stopped infiltration of 334 Myanmar nationals to Bangladesh and seized five pistols, one guns, 42 rounds of bullets and four magazines last month.
The BGB also seized drugs and smuggling items worth Tk 786.72 crore in countrywide drives in 2016.
