Members of Boarder Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in Comilla, Chandpur and Laxmipur districts on Tuesday night to ward off possible violence centering the Supreme Court orders on the review petitions of war criminals Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed against their death penalties. Two platoons of the paramilitary forces were deployed in Comilla district while one platoon each was deployed in Chandpur and Laxmipur districts to maintain law and order following announcement of the SC orders, said Lieutenant Colonel Mukhlesur Rahman of BGB-10 of Comilla. Besides, in Sylhet, several BGB teams are ready to hit the roads in order to fend off any untoward incident in district following the SC orders, said Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district Joynal Abedin. On Wednesday morning, the Supreme Court upheld its previous verdicts on Mojaheed and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, rejecting their pleas for reviewing death penalties for their crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. — Dhaka, Nov 18 (UNB)
