Leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist (BFUJ) yesterday demanded an immediate release Rabiullah Robi, news editor of the Dainik Inqilab. BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Secretary General Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, in a statement, said as a result of long movement by the journalist community the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina abolished the practice of arresting journalists in connection with any lawsuit.
Expressing their indignation, the journalist leaders said newsmen are now arrested frequently under the ICT Act.
Robi was arrested by the detective branch (DB) of police in connection with a case filed with Sutrapur police station under Information Communication Technology (ICT) Act following publication of a report in the newspaper.
Besides, the Journalists’ leaders also expressed the hope that the owners of the newspaper industry would pay salary and festival allowance before the Eid-ul-Azha and Durga Puja.
