BFUJ by-election on July 29

The by-election of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) for the President post will be held on July 29. A press release signed by Abu Taher, chairman of the election steering committee, yesterday said the voting will be held at 10 centres in Dhaka and nine other major cities from 9 am to 5pm with one hour break (from 1-2 pm) for Jumma prayer and launch on the day.
The post of BFUJ president fell vacant after the death of elected BFUJ president Altaf Mahmood on January 24 last. Earlier, the biennial election of BFUJ was held on Nov 28 last year.
The committee yesterday held a meeting at BFUJ office fixing the election schedule where two other committee members – Ashok Kumar and Shaheed Chowdhury – were also present.
The BFUJ by-polls schedule include: collection of nomination paper on July 1-3 (from 11 am to 4pm), submission of nomination on July 3 (till 4pm), publication of draft list of the candidatures on July 10 (at 11 am), withdrawal of candidatures on July 12 (till 4 pm) and finalizing the list of president contestants on July 14.
