The 40th Berger Paints National ‘A’ Chess Championship begins today (Saturday) at the Media Centre of Bangladesh Olympic Association.
The event will be held in round-robin league system. Grandmastersreigning champion GM Abdullah Al Rakib, runner-up GM Zaiur Rahman, GM Enamul Hossain and GM Niaz Murshed are directly participating in the event.
Earlier, nine players qualified in the National A Chess from recently concluded National B chess Championship.
They are IM Minhaz Uddin Ahmed Sagar, Mahtabuddin Ahmed Robin, Uten, FM Debaraj Chatterjee, FM Aminul Islam, FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, CM Sohel Chowdhury and Masum Hossain.
Tournament sponsor Berger Paints has provided Taka 5 lacs to run the championship.
In this regards, a press conference was held on Friday at the Bangladesh Olympic Association conference room to give all the details of the meet.
