'One House One Farm' project: Beneficiary families rise to 21,90,876

The total number of countrywide beneficiary families under the ‘One House One Farm’ Project increased to 21,90,876 with the income of per beneficiary family increased by Tk 10,921.
According to the latest data of the LGRD Ministry till June 21, this year, some 40,347 village Samities have been formed under the project while the number of direct and indirect beneficiaries under the project increased to 1.10 crore.
Talking to The New Nation, an official at the Rural Development and Cooperatives Division said that the cumulative smaller income generating farms in rural areas under the project also increased to 24,26,598 with the amount of cumulative investment from the project to the rural economy climbing to Tk 2,997.73 crore including Tk 2,958.60 crore as the total fund of the rural people.
The official said that the number of low income families under the project has declined to 3 percent from 15 percent while that of the high income families increased to 31 percent from 23 percent.
He said that inspired by ‘One House One Farm’ project, Palli Sanchay Bank (Rural Savings Bank) has been created converting this project taken by Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives in 2009 for five years with a vision to make every rural house into a agricultural farm using country’s rich biodiversity and ecosystem.
Under the project, some 2.2 million people, mostly rural poor and underprivileged, were organized under Samities (association) to encourage them in environment friendly dairy and poultry farming, horticulture, exchange of ideas, knowledges and technologies, cooperative marketing and savings of earnings.
The parliament enacted the Palli Sanchay Bank Act, 2014 aimed at facilitating poor and underprivileged section of rural people for savings, processing transaction and maintenance of their money, giving loan and advance as well as creating opportunities for investment.
Already some 100 branches of the Bank were inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while process is on to open branches of this bank in all the upazilas of the country.
