Belgian co keen to work in BD power sector: Envoy

Ambassador of Belgium to Bangladesh Jan Luykx on Wednesday said Belgium’s companies are interested to work in Bangladesh’s power and energy sectors.
“Both the countries will be benefited through mutual understanding and co-operation in various fields including power and energy sectors,” he said while talking to State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid at latter’s ministry office in the Secretariat during a courtesy call.
The state minister and the Belgian envoy discussed various issues related to mutual interests. They also talked about Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and power transmission, distribution system and renewable energy.
The Belgian envoy appreciated Bangladesh’s tremendous development under the present government.
The state minister said the government would welcome foreign investment in power and energy sector, as China invested around $ 7.5 billion this sector and Japan has already initiated to establish industries by setting up an economic zone. “The government has undertaken initiative to establish underground power substations and transmission lines” the state minister added.
Embassy and power companies’ officials of Belgium were present during the meeting.
