Staff Reporter :Highly sensitive abductions panicked city dwellers yesterday to wonder what security they have for them and their family members from underground gangsters hitting their objects at soft targets.In a dramatic move Abu Bakar Siddique, a garment high official and the husband of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) chief Syeda Rizwana Hasan, has been abducted from Fatulla area in Narayanganj on Wednesday afternoon.In another move, an activist of Gonojagoron Mancha was abducted reportedly by members of rival group as they are fighting factional clashes on organizational matters. But the abduction of Rizwana’s husband Abu Bakr Siddique by unidentified gangsters caught the people both by panic and surprise marked by a rapidly worsening law and order situation. Rizwana is a lawyer and highly active environmental campaigner and running litigations on various public interest issues such as land grabbing or river pollutionsome miscreants numbering 7-8 from Bhuiyan Filling Station area of Narayanganj.”Our driver Ripon later informed me about the abduction over phone,” she added.Rizwana, who was very upset and sobbing over phone when this correspondent called her, could not immediately ascertain any reason for the abduction.She said she was starting for Fatulla from Dhaka to gather more information about the incident.Siddique’s car driver Ripon told The New Nation that they were heading towards the capital after visiting a garment factory in Fatullah. Suddenly, a blue color microbus hit their car from the back at Belpara area at around 3pm.Both the driver and Siddiqui got down to see the dent. Suddenly, the unidentified armed miscreants numbering seven to eight jumped out off their microbus and sprayed chemical to the driver’s eye, Ripon said.He further said: “Later, they forcefully pushed Siddique into their microbus and fled the scene.”Akhter Hossian, officer-in-charge of Fatulla Police Station, confirmed the incident but could not say who might be involved in the incident. On information, Narayanganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Syeed Nurul Islam rushed to the spot immediately after the abduction and directed the law enforcing agencies to tight surveillance on every gateway of the district.He said: “Additional forces have been deployed at different spots to find out the kidnappers.”Rizwana said, a case was lodged at Fatullah police station last evening. She said she is also going to RAB Narayanganj office to seek their help for rescuing her husband.  Sources said, Narayangonj has earned the name of a notorious city in recent past because of killings, abductions and forced disappearance of people from young to schoolboys and elders. The crime gang is reportedly operating under the shelter of a ruling party lawmaker and his gang stars. It is yet not clear who may have carried out the abduction of Abu Bakar Siddiqui, but one thing is clear that nothing can happen in the port city without involvement or the knowledge of the concerned lawmaker and his family. However, people tend to believe that it is the responsibility of the law enforcers to dig out the case and find out the culprits.
