Beef, chicken prices lower, fish, veg prices up

Prices of broiler chicken and beef, which shoot up before Eid ul-Fitr, came down but prices of vegetables went up in the capital’s kitchen markets.
Traders at different kitchen markets on Friday said prices of meat decreased due to low demand after the Eid festival. Butchers selling beef at Tk 580 to 600 per kg which was Tk 600 to 650 the day before Eid.
Broiler chicken was sold at Tk 135 to 140 per kg which was Tk 150 to 160 before Eid. Layer and Sonali chicken was lit at Tk 220 and 260 which was at Tk 240 and 290 before Eid.
Mohammad Anwar Hossain, a butcher at Karwan Bazar, said the price of beef shoot up to Tk 600 to 650 for high demand over the one week before of Eid but it came down to Tk 580 as there was little demand.
Chowdhury Kalim Uddin sells chicken at Karwan Bazar. He said the price of broiler chicken and Sonali variety has come down after Eid.
“Most of the customers are yet to return to Dhaka after Eid. So sales are very low,” he said.
Another butcher Mohammad Assaduzaman at Farmgate said the business did not go well in the first 20 days of Ramadan due to low demand but in the last 10 days, the business peaked for the high demand.
‘I sold beef at Tk 650 per kg then as there was high demand but now I am selling again at regular price of Tk 580 per kg and there is no possibility of decreasing the price further,” said Mohammad Assaduzaman.
Meanwhile, the price of unpacked sugar increased before Eid and now it decreased. Sugar was sold at Tk 75 before Eid and now it is sold at Tk 70.
Prices of fish increased in different kitchen market in the capital.
Fish trader Mohammad Montu Mia said generally prices of fish go up after Eid for low supply.
Different variety of fish is selling with little bit high price such as shrimp was selling at Tk 780 per kg, up by Tk 80 than the price of before Eid. Rui at Tk 250, up by Tk 50, Katla at Tk 250, up by Tk 50, Catfish at Tk 350, up by Tk 100, Poly at Tk 380, up by Tk 30, Tilapia at Tk 150, up by Tk 30.
A customer Abdul Hakim said the prices of fishes were much high than usual and he was confused about what caused the price increase.
Besides, vegetables are selling at little bit higher prices in Karwan Bazar, Farmgate and Mohakhali.
