BSS, Dhaka :
A high-flying Bangladesh will take on the visiting Zimbabwe in the Second and Final T20 match today at the Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Bangladesh had already won the lone Test match by an innings and 106-run and then swept the three-match ODI series before winning the first T20 by 48 runs. Another victory for them would leave Zimbabwe empty handed in the month long series.
Apart from the second ODI in which they survived a Donald Tiripano scare to beat Zimbabwe by four-run, all of Bangladesh’s victory came in absolute dominating fashion. This was imperative for them, considering the fact that they were in a rough phase in their cricket history, following some morale- shattering defeats.
To be more precise, Bangladesh’s poor-run in all format of the cricket began after the World Cup in which they finished as lowly as eighth position.
So an absolute domination over Zimbabwe came as much relief for them, specially when they are preparing for the one-off ODI and second Test against Pakistan in next month.
However, a victory in the Second T20 will give them the satisfaction what they want. A Zimbabwe victory would be a massive upset, but for Bangladesh it would be another morale-shattering defeat.
But with the batsmen performing tremendously and the bowlers backing them up nicely, a Bangladesh victory is highly likely.
Bangladesh in fact produced record after record in every match they played against Zimbabwe in the series. The first T20 was also no exception as Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das produced a record opening partnership before Soumya Sarkar gave a whirlwind finish.
“It was pleasing to see how the batsmen performed, especially up front, Liton and Tamim. The wicket was a bit tacky but the batsmen looked real good. The batsmen applied their strengths,” Bangladesh T20 captain Mahmudullah Riyad said.
He however urged his side not to be complacent as they came in the last phase of fulfilling their target-a tour sweep.
“We can’t be complacent, we’re playing good cricket, but we’ve to be consistent enough,” he added.
But Bangladesh might make some experiment in the second and final match of T20 series. There is discussion that whether they could give Tamim Iqbal a rest.
Like the Test and ODI cricket, Bangladesh also dominated Zimbabwe in T20 format, winning eight of 12 encounters between the two teams including three straight wins. Zimbabwe won just four and would like to win the second game to avoid the tour sweep and take some pride.
“We missed our lengths when we bowled. Partnerships again at the top of the order let us down. Those partnerships are crucial for us and probably would have got us close. Chasing 200 is a lot of pressure but we should think carefully about the shot selections we make. It’s a simple fix,” Zimbabwe captain Sean Williams said.
