BD wants Canada as dev partner: FM

Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday night said Bangladesh wants to see Canada as a close and reliable partner with enhanced assistance and cooperation in social, economic, infrastructure, technological and human resources development sectors to reach its development goals.
He said, Canadian entrepreneurs can contribute to the economic growth of both the countries by investing in the 100 Special Economic Zones being established all over Bangladesh.
While addressing an event marking the 150th years of Canada Confederation by Canada- Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CanChem) in a city hotel, the minister mentioned power, energy, transportation, ICT, food and agro processing, light engineering, services and hospitality sectors where Canadian entrepreneurs can invest. Canadian High Commissioner in Dhaka Laram and President of CanChem Bangladesh Masud Rahman were, among others, present.
Mahmood Ali said since independence, Canada has stood by Bangladesh in  
its need as a trusted friend and dependable development partner. “Today, under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has become a shining example of economic development in the world,” he said.
He said, the government is working towards achieving a ‘Digital Bangladesh’ where the people will have equitable access to resources and information.
