BD to introduce 5G, if AL voted to power again: Joy

Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy said Bangladesh will introduce 5G services in the country, if the Awami League (AL) is voted to power again through the next general election.
“Bangladesh is going to be one of the first countries to deploy 5G in the world. This is my promise to you that if you vote for Awami League once again, we will bring 5G in Bangladesh,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at the “Bangladesh 5G Summit 2018” at Sonargaon Hotel in the city.
Posts and Telecommunications Division, in cooperation with Huawei and Robi, demonstrated 5G technology for the first time in Bangladesh.
As per election manifesto, Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed said, Bangladesh is moving forward to achieve the goals of digital Bangladesh and ‘Vision-2021’ since the country has been able to deploy the next generation internet so fast.
“Whenever there is a new technology, I want it. That is my habit as a techie. Even though we have recently launched 4G, we are talking about 5G. 5G is not a dream, it’s a reality now,” he added.
He informed that now, internet in Bangladesh is one of the cheapest in the world since the government is putting pressure on the regulators to reduce the cost of internet.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar presided over the summit while State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Posts and Telecommunications Division Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Robi Axiata Limited Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, President of Huawei’s Southeast Asia Region Zhang Zhengjun James Wu, among others, were present.
Jabbar said technology is essential to take forward the country and everyone will have to involve with technology. “We have established the country as a digital one in the world under the leadership of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
The minister also urged the mobile operators to expand 4G internet services across the country soon as 4G will play a vital role to bring 5G in the country.
Palak said Bangladesh has achieved remarkable development in the last 10 years under the prudent policy and dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He urged all to support Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the next general election for continuing the country’s development spree since, saying that a country moves forward under an honest leadership.
James Wu said, “I’ve always been impressed by the rapid progress that Bangladesh has made in ICT infrastructure, which is truly an example in the region connecting all people.”
Behind such achievements, he said, they have witnessed that many policies have been consistently introduced and implemented to promote ICT development, such as ICT investment, startup community, high-tech parks, ICT training to students, and so on.
He believed that more and more Bangladeshi people will enjoy a better digital life with the advent of 5G.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said, implementing the manifestation of Digital Bangladesh is not possible without the latest technologies, such as 5G.
