UNB, Dhaka :After Sri Lanka, Bangladesh now wants to export rice to neighbouring India from its bulging stock. “We’re going to export rice to India, too. We’ve some surplus rice and more new rice stock is being added to,” Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told reporters at the Foreign Ministry on Monday.He, however, did not mention the quantity of rice to be exported to India. “The rice will be exported to Tripura as they need rice right now… discussions are on about it.”The Foreign Minister said exporting rice to Sri Lanka is a big success. “The first consignment of 25000 MT was exported on Sunday.”State-run Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC)’s cargo ship ‘Banglar Kakoli’ carried the rice fromthe Chittagong Port to Colombo. Bangladesh for the first time exported rice to Sri Lanka as part of an agreement between the two countries to export 50,000-MT of rice to Sri Lanka.In response to a proposal to import boiled rice by the Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Bangladesh signed a pact on August 26 to export 50,000 tonnes of rice to Sri Lanka in a first government-to-government deal.
