Bangladesh will be the world 23rd economic power within the next two decades and will go ahead of Singapore and Malaysia, said Dr. Mohammad Faras Uddin, a former Governor of Bangladesh Bank (BB).
“Our country is now a role model for others, and we have already reached at middle income country level, no need to wait until 2021,” he said while addressing as the chief guest a post-budget discussion meeting on Sunday.
Organised by the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB), the discussion was presided over by IDEB President AKMA Hamid.
Chairman of Technical Education Board Dr Mustafijur Rahman, Director General of the Board Ashok Kumar Biswas, Secretary General of Bangladesh Economic Association Dr Zamal Uddin, IDEB General Secretary Shamsur Rahman and Director General of Rural Development Academy (Bogra) Abdul Matin, among others, spoke in the occasion.
Farasuddin, however, said the country needs super highways, train lines, universities and industries for its development. At the same time huge land is required to produce foods for 160 million people which, he said, is a big challenge.
