Speakers at a discussion have said Bangladesh has achieved laudable success in generating power to become self- reliant on electricity soon following the effective steps of the present government during the past six years.
Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB) organised the post-rally discussion in observance of the National Electricity Week- 2014 at the Chief Engineer’s office premises on the Station Road in the city on Sunday.
Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Dilwar Bakht formally launched observance of the week by releasing balloons and called for further improving services in the power sector that has attained tremendous success in recent years.
Earlier, a colourful rally, participated by officials and employees of PDB, Rural Electrification Board, teachers, students, activists of different socio-cultural, volunteer and professional organisations,civil society members and elite parade the streets.
Led by Chief Engineer for Rangpur region of PDB Mahfuzur Rahman, the rally was brought out from his office premises and returned there again after parading the main streets of the divisional city.
Later, a discussion meeting was arranged there with Executive Engineer of PDB Shahadat Hossain in the chair.
Rangpur Zila Parishad Administrator and Acting President of district unit of Bangalees Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmmed attended and addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
Chief Engineer for Rangpur region of PDB Mahfuzur Rahman and senior leader of Sramik League Insan Ali addressed the occasion as the special guests.
Narrating huge success achieved by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in power generation and improving electricity supply during the past six years, the speakers said the country would soon become self-reliant of electricity.
The speakers asked for becoming sincere in using power, large-scale utilisation of energy saving bulbs and digital metres, timely payment of electricity bills, less power consumption during peak hours, preventing illegal power connections to save electricity.
