‘BD to achieve self-reliance on electricity soon’

Bangladesh has been achieving continuous success in increasing power generation capacity to achieve completely self-reliance on electricity soon, speakers at a launching ceremony said on Friday.
Member of the Parliament from Panchagarh-2 seat and President of Panchagarh district Awami league (AL) Advocate Nurul Islam Shujan said this after switching on newly built power supply line at a ceremony at Shalshiri Dakhil Madrasa in Boda upazila of Panchagarh district as the chief guest.
With the switching on of the power supply line, people of Shalshiri, Dabordanga and Dakshin Langolgram villages under Jhaloishalshiri union got electricity supply for their residences, charitable organisations, deep tube wells and local industries.
The Rural Electrification Board (REB) implemented construction works of the power supply line to fulfill the long-cherished demand of hundreds of people of the area.
Former chairman of Jhaloishalshiri union parishad Mohammad Samsuzzoha presided over a discussion meeting arranged on the occasion.
President of Boda upazila AL Advocate Wahiduzzaman Shuja, its General Secretary Faruk Alam Tobi, Deputy General Manager of Panchagarh Zone of Thakurgaon Polli Bidyut Samity Mobasser Hossain and President oif Jhaloishalshiri union AL Tayebur Rahman addressed the ceremony as special guests.
The upazila level government officials, officials of REB, leaders of local AL and its front organisations, common people including farmers, workers, civil society members, professionals, teachers, students and elite were present.
The speakers said the nation has already achieved tremendous success in generating power on its way to become self- reliant on electricity soon following the effective steps taken by the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in recent years.
The chief guest suggested the people for sincerely using power, utilisation of energy saving bulbs, digital metres, timely payment of electricity bills, less power consumption during peak hours, preventing illegal power connections to save electricity.
