BD support for independent State of Palestine lauded

Palestine Ambassador and Dean of Diplomatic Corps in Dhaka Shaher Mohammad on Tuesday called on Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at the State Guest House Meghna here.
During the meeting, the Foreign Minister reaffirmed total commitment and support of Bangladesh to the just cause of the Palestinians and expressed Bangladesh’s solidarity with the Palestinians brethren for their just struggle for an independent homeland.
He mentioned that Bangladesh delegation led by State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam, MP played an important role at the recently concluded Joint Ministerial Meeting of the UN Committee and Arab League on the exercise of inalienable rights of the Palestinian people held on 10-11 March in Cairo this year.
The Minister also stated that Bangladesh has been supportive to full membership of UN for the State of Palestine and support the move, and happy to note that UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly to grant an upgradation of the Palestine at the UN from “Entity” to “non-member observer State’ on 29 November 2012 which would pave the way for full membership.
Palestine Ambassador appreciated the unequivocal support of Bangladesh to the cause of independent State of Palestine. He also underlined the importance of bilateral engagement between the two states, particularly in the areas of trade, economic cooperation and training for capacity building. He then conveyed the desire of Nabil Saath, Head of International Relations to undertake a visit to Bangladesh to discuss about recent developments in Palestine which could be organised at a mutually convenient time.
