Business Desk :
There is a lack of information in Bangladesh and often questions are raised about the authenticity of the available information, said Planning Minister MA Mannan.
Not only the lack of information but questions are also raised often about the quality of the information, said Mannan, who is also chief of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the country’s most important data-generating organisation.
The minister was speaking at a discussion on the government’s stimulus package to fight coronavirus organised by the Asia Foundation and the Economic Reporter Forum on Saturday.
“We can assure you that we will update it (information) in time and we are trying so that you will get access to it beyond the bureaucratic hurdles,” Mannan said. Earlier, Debapriya Bhattacharya, a distinguished fellow of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), said that there is a kind of blindness in the field of information in the country. The issue was also raised in today’s discussion in the case of evaluation of the government’s incentive packages.
