BD sees fall in Covid cases, deaths

Both deaths and infections from coronavirus decreased in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours till Friday.
The country reported 2,548 more cases, down by 308 than Thursday’s 2,856, during the period to bring the total to 218,658.
Besides, 35 more people succumbed to the virus, taking the death tally to 2,836.
The daily death toll saw a fall by 15 than Thursday’s 50 in the past 24 hours.
Of the new deceased, 28 are men and seven are women. Among the total dead, 2,237 or 78.88 percent are men and 599 or 21.12 percent are women.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon. She said 1,768 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of

people making recovery to 120,976.
Prof Nasima said 12,027 samples were tested in labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 1,091,034 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.19 percent while the infection rate is 20.04 percent against total tests carried out so far, she said. The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 55.33 while the mortality rate is 1.30 percent.
On Thursday, Bangladesh reported 50 deaths from coronavirus and 2,856 cases. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases continued to surge around the world reaching 15,654,649 as of Friday.
Besides, the virus has so far claimed the lives of 636,479 people globally, according to Worldometer.
Of the currently infected 5,482,529 patients, 5,416,275 are in mild condition while 66,254 are in serious or critical condition. So far, 9,535,641 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 4,169,991 and 147,333 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 2,289,951 cases and 84,207 deaths and India reported 3rd highest 1,288,130 cases.
