Bangladesh Police retained as champion in the Walton’s 5th National Baseball Championship on Monday after gallantly fighting hard to beat Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force in the final by 9-8 points at Paltan ground.
It was grimly fought final as Ansar took early lead but reigning champions Police fought hard to just scrape past their rival in the final moments to lift the title.
Both champion Police and runners-up Ansar team received Walton Group trophy.
Walton Group Operative Director (Games and Sports) FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Don) distributed the prizes as the chief guest at the prize giving ceremony.
Zakir Hossain Majumdar, deputy police commissioner (division of welfare and force), DMP General Secretary of Bangladesh Baseball – Softball Association Aminul Islam Liton, Tournament Committee Secretary Azam Ali Khan and others were present.
In this year’s Walton 5th National Baseball Competition, eight teams took part divided into two groups. Walton provided jerseys for eight teams.
The teams in Group A were Bangladesh Police, Pabna District, Sirajganj District and Dhaka District Sports Association. ‘B’ group teams were Bangladesh Ansar, Chittagong District, Dhaka Metropolitan Police and Narail District Sports Association.
