A latest data of the Transparency International showed that Bangladesh has been ranked 14th among the most corrupt countries in 2019.
The Berlin based organisation released the data on the worldwide corruption perception index on the year.
The Bangladesh chapter of Transparency International released the data at a press conference in its office in Dhaka on Thursday.
According to the index, Bangladesh continued to be ranked the second most corrupt country among eight South Asian nations after Afghanistan.
“Though Bangladesh scored one stage up this year, the depth and wide range of corruption is a matter of anxiety,” said Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, the Executive Director of the TIB. He said there was chance to ensure good governance in the country by ensuring rules of law, but that had not taken place.
In the year, Bangladesh moved one notch up in the global corruption index from 13th in 2018.
Though the rank was changed from the previous year, the score of Bangladesh was still 26 in 100. Bangladesh was ranked 13th position with a score of 26 in 2018.
The index provides corruption perceptions of 180 countries.
