BD mission observes ‘Amar Ekushey’ in Canberra

Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra observed Amar Ekushey and International Mother Language Day 2017 in a befitting manner holding cultural programme with participation of children and local artists.
The function was started at 7.30 pm and continued up to 10.00 pm on 24th February, according to a message received here on Monday.
Children of officials of Bangladesh high commission along with local artists joined the Amar Ekushey cultural function and they performed different songs on mother language.
Officials of Bangladesh High Commission in Australia and expatriates living in Canberra paid homage to the martyrs of the Language Movement in 1952 with observance at the beginning of the day’s programme.
High Commissioner Kazi Imtiaz Hossain along with the officials of the mission placed the wreath at the Shahid Minar on the High Commission premise at 0001 hrs followed by the members of the community.
In his remarks, he recalled the contribution of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with gratefulness for his prudent leadership from 1952 to 1971.
High Commissioner Hossain informed that the bust of the Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was unveiled on 20th February at the
International Centre for Ocean Governance (ICOG) of Western Sydney University.
This is the first time that the bust of the Father of the Nation is unveiled in
a University of the world.
The second phase of the programme started through hoisting the national flag
to half-mast by the High Commissioner in presence of all the officials of the
mission and expatriate community at 9.00 am. They stood in solemn silence for
one minute as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the language heroes.
Recitation from the Holy Quran and Doa were organized for the peace and
salvation of the departed souls of the valiant language fighters who sacrificed
their lives for establishing mother tongue Bangla as state language. Then
messages of the President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister
for Foreign Affairs were read out. The High Commissioner highlighted the
significance of the day mentioning that the blood stained resonance of 21st
February is now resounded in the hearts of the people of 193 countries
surpassing the boundary of Bangladesh as it was declared as the International
Mother Language Day by the United Nations on 17 November, 1999. He called for
renewing the pledge to preserve and enrich the Bangla language saying that
mother language is the most natural tools to uphold one’s identity, culture and
heritage.
He made appeal to all to work together with the spirit of language movement
for materializing the vision 2021 and 2041 of making Bangladesh a developed
country declared by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
