Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad on Tuesday observed the historic Mujibnagar Day in a befitting manner to mark the anniversary of the oath-taking of the country’s first government during the country’s War of Liberation in 1971.
In the morning, a discussion highlighting the significance of the Mujibnagar Day was arranged at the high commission premises, according to a message received here.
At the beginning, messages from the President Md. Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina were read out by the senior officials of the High Commission.
Taking part in the discussion, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ahsan paid rich tributes to the memories of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders.
He expressed profound gratitude for the sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters, the martyrs, during the country’s War of Liberation in 1971.
Ahsan said that the Mujibnagar government had discharged the historic responsibility directing the Liberation War, managing the relief operation for the refugees and molding world opinion in favour of Bangladesh.
He said the day was particularly significant as the people’s representatives officially adopted the proclamation of independence declaring Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the Head of State.
