BD mission in Islamabad celebrates Rabindra-Nazrul birth anniversary

Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad has celebrated the 156th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore and 118th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam in a befitting manner.
Expatriate Bangladeshis, students, mission officials and distinguished Pakistani nationals like rights activist Tahira Abdullah joined the programme with their family members at the Chancery premises on Saturday, according to a message received here on Sunday.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Tarik Ahsan inaugurated the function saying both Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam championed humanity and social reforms while giving expression to the emotions and feelings of the individual in a refined and artistic manner.
He added that both the poets had a profound relation with the then East Bengal, now Bangladesh, and that life of people of East Bengal shaped their literary creations to a great extent.
The works of these two poets were a great source of inspiration for the freedom fighters during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, he said.
The function recalled that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who brought poet Kazi Nazrul Islam to the newly independent Bangladesh and conferred upon him the citizenship of Bangladesh.
The discussion was followed by a cultural function.
