Despite Sabbir Rahman’s century Bangladesh lost to New Zealand by 88 runs in the third and last One Day International (ODI) match at Dunedin in New Zealand on Wednesday. New Zealand clinched the ODI series 3-0.
Sabbir hit a marvelous 102. His 110-ball innings was laced with 12 fours and two sixes. It was Sabbir’s maiden ton in his ODI career.
Chasing New Zealand’s mammoth total of 330 for the loss of six wickets in 50 overs, Bangladesh were all out for 242 off 47.2 overs.
Bangladesh faced an early collapse as they lost three wickets just two runs.
Then Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad put on together 38 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim ( 17) was caught at the third man by Colin Munro off Trent Boult when Bangladesh’s score was 40 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Mahmudullah Riyad (16) was caught at the deep square leg by Munro off C de Grandhomme when the tourists’ total was 61 for the loss of five wickets.
Later, Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin built a remarkable partnership. They contributed together 101 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Saifuddin was caught at the mid-wicket by Martin Guptill off Trent Boult when Bangladesh’s total was 162 for the loss of six wickets.
Saifuddin notched up a polished 44 from 63 balls featuring four fours.
Sabbir and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made a remarkable partnership. They added together 67 runs for the eighth wicket partnership before Miraz was caught by Martin Guptill off Tim Southee when the visitors’ score was 237 for the loss of eight wickets.
Miraz hit a fine 37. His 34-ball knock saw seven fours.
Later Sabbir Rahman was caught & bowled by Tim Southee when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Tim Southee played the key role in wrecking Bangladesh’s innings. He captured six wickets at the cost of 65 runs. Southee was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Trent Boult bagged a pair of wickets instead of 37 runs.
Earlier, New Zealand had a shaky start as opener Colin Munro (8) was trapped leg before wicket by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when the hosts’ total was 21.
Then Martin Guptill and HM Nicholls added together 38 runs for the second wicket partnership before Guptill was caught at the long-on by Tamim Iqbal off Mohammad Saifuddin when the team’s total was 59 for the loss of two wickets.
Then Nicholls and Ross Taylor contributed together 92 runs in the third wicket partnership before Nicholls was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Tamim Iqbal off Miraz when New Zealand’s score was 151 for the loss of three wickets.
Nicholls hit a splendid 64. His 74-ball innings was studded with seven fours.
After Nicholls’ departure, Ross Taylor and Tom Latham added together 55 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Taylor was caught at the deep square leg by Mahmudullah Riyad off Rubel Hossain when the home side’s total was 206 for the loss of four wickets.
Taylor made a terrific 69. His 82-ball knock was ornamented with seven fours.
After Taylor’s departure, Latham and James Neesham added together 65 runs in the five-wicket stand before Neesham was bowled out by Mustafizur Rahman when New Zealand’s score was 271 for the loss of five wickets.
Neesham made 37 from 24 balls including three fours and two sixes.
Latham was caught at the deep mid-wicket by Soumya Sarkar off Mustafizur Rahman when the hosts’ total was 284 for the loss of six wickets.
Latham hit a sparkle 59. His 51-ball innings was belted with three sixes and two fours.
Then Grandhomme and MJ Santner added together 46 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket Partnership.
Grandhomme remained unbeaten with 37. His 15-ball knock saw four fours and two sixes.
Earlier, Martin Guptill scored 29 from 40 balls including three fours and a sixer.
Mustafizur Rahman got two wickets conceding 93 runs.
Miraz, Mashrafe, Rubel and Saifuddin took one wicket apiece.
Martin Guptill was adjudged the Player of the Series.
